After School Club

Although told to go straight home, in the days when kids took themselves to and from school there was always time for a quick game of marbles. Taws, as we called them seemed to have unexplained attributes attached that made them more valuable, worth multiple marbles if you won or lost with them.

Certain holes in bits of wasteland or broken corners of flagstones became the place to be, to meet and show off the myriad of coloured marbles that you had either won or more often swapped with others.

The game always went into overtime which made you late home for your tea and invariably got you rewarded with a clout upside your head, - more than worth it
